How It Works:

The resin beads are charged with sodium (Na⁺) or potassium (K⁺) ions.

When hard water passes through, the beads attract and hold calcium (Ca²⁺) and magnesium (Mg²⁺) ions (the minerals that cause hardness).

In exchange, the resin releases sodium or potassium ions, effectively softening the water.

Over time, the resin becomes saturated with hardness minerals and needs to be regenerated using a salt (sodium chloride) or potassium chloride solution.
